A Little about Me
I have a very unique understanding of the process of losing weight. I
personally know what it is like to be out of shape and overweight. I have
one of those body types where I have to fight my weight on a daily basis.
Like many I have met; it is a constant struggle for me. I dare say that
there wouldn’t be a handful of people in the world who have put more
effort into working out and staying in shape than I have. I have done it
all. Running, biking, hiking, walking, stadiums, sports, aerobics, boot
camps, weight lifting—all types, yoga, Pilates, breathing, sweating,
steaming, electrical shock, massage, cleansing—and then there is
the dieting, supplementing, and the pills. Geez—where do I even begin?
Look, I’ll make it short—if it has been published (books, magazines,
medical journals, internet, newspapers, periodicals and etc.); broadcasted
or even circulated by flyer I have tried it. I have a certain amount of
shame in writing that; but it is absolutely true.
Thirteen years ago in an exercise physiology class at the university that
I was attending, I figured out exactly what I wanted to do in life. In
that exercise physiology class that I was taking I learned that there really
isn’t one specific protocol for weight loss. I learned that if a
person wanted to lose weight—all that was recommended by those in
authority was non-specific diet and exercise. Even as an untrained plebe
in the health and fitness profession, this never made much sense to me.
It made me wonder—where is the Weight Loss Training? They have specific,
proven training protocol for every sport and activity ever dreamt of, but
when it comes to weight loss—nothing. Unless you count the diet de
jour or whatever exercise program is popular in the media? This seemed
insane to me.
At the time, I was being taught about the state of the nation’s
health. We all know the statistics—65% of the American public is
considered overweight. We heard this so often in school that it lost its
meaning to most—not me. To me—this means that 65% of the people
that I know and love are hundreds of times more likely to die younger than
expected because of their lifestyle choices! It also means that this 65%
of the people I know and love will live their lives more diseased, less
healthy and more uncomfortable (physically, mentally, spiritually socially
and financially) than is necessary. This is unacceptable to me and I decided
long ago that I am going to do something about it.
So I started studying—weight loss only. It is funny the circles
that life will take you in. It turns out that in order to learn as much
as you can about one thing, sometimes you have to learn a lot about almost
everything else. So, I put enormous amounts of time and effort into learning
everything that I could about losing weight and improving health. Along
the way I have made discoveries. First, I discovered that there is a lot
of misleading crap out there. But, here is what I want you to know about
that—I looked all the way into each program or system anyway, because
another thing that I have discovered is that sometimes you can find helpful
little gems of info in a whacky program that you would have missed if you
dismissed it as a hoax. Over the years I have made thousands of positive
discoveries that I am excited to share with you in this book. And because
of these discoveries, I have had the privilege of helping literally thousands
(if not hundreds of thousands) of people worldwide take on their own weight
loss demons and beat them.
I know weight loss. It is what I do. I didn’t just happen into it.
I’m here deliberately and on purpose. Helping people lose weight
has been my obsession and my focus as a professional for over 14 years
now.
I have a lot of experience helping people lose weight. I figure conservatively
that over the last 13 years I have personally conducted and participated
in no fewer than 45,000 individual workouts. Let me put that into perspective
for you. That kind of experience would take the average person over 109
years of working out every single day of their life; from the day they
were born to gain, without missing once. Ever!
Aside from my personal clientele I have written for numerous newspapers
and magazines on the subject of weight loss. I have also written books
and manuals that have been used to train people on weight loss how-to’s.
These have been distributed around the world. I have also written certifications
for fitness professionals and have mentored and/or taught hundreds of professional
personal trainers around the world my weight loss and fitness methods.
I have made 27 (and counting) highly successful workout videos which have
been distributed around the world.
I have my own call-in talk radio program. And for three years gave a live,
weekly fitness tip as Salt Lake City’s Exercise Expert for the local
CBS affiliate.
All of this experience does not include any of the hundreds of books and
recordings I have read and listened to on weight loss, fitness, physiology,
kinesiology, biomechanics, human behavior, etc., and etc. Neither does
it take into account the myriad of classes and workshops I have attended
on the same subjects. It also doesn’t take into account the hundreds
of informal and/or formal experiments I have conducted on weight loss (either
on myself or on others, with their approval). Even further it doesn’t
take into account my 4-5 years of experience and training in physical therapy
and cardiac rehab. And none of this includes my formal education (I have
a 4 year degree in Exercise Science) or the numerous professional certifications
I have obtained over the years.
So, what? Why am I telling you all of this? Well, for two reasons. First
of all, I know that you aren’t going to trust a word that I say without
seeing that I have a strong background, training, education, experience
and passion for what I do.
Second; is because I know you have been burned in the past. If you are
over 25 and are trying to lose weight, it’s a pretty good bet that
this isn’t your first rodeo. More than likely you have tried other
programs in the past. More than likely these other programs haven’t
worked out for you the way that you had hoped. I realize that by now, it
is hard for you not to be a little cynical about the merits of any program
let alone your own personal likelihood for success. I get it. I know. I
have been there. I’ve seen it and I have done it. All of it—including
the good and the bad. Just like you, I have been let down, led to believe
and flat out lied to so many times that I have lost count. Frankly, every
time I hear the words “weight loss” used in conjunction with
the word “easy” it is hard not to flinch a little. It is even
harder to take someone’s “new” weight loss and fitness
advice at face value or take their word for it. It is for these reasons
that I created and published my program.
